This has to be the creepiest art show poster I’ve seen all year. I get the shudders from looking at the smile on her cracked face. The poster is for Yokai in Your Eye, a group art show coming soon to the Bear and Bird Gallery in Lauderhill, Florida. (“Bear and Bird” is an awesome name for an art gallery.) Naoto Hattori created the poster, and he will be one of the artists at the show. You can see the complete flyer here.

“Yokai” is a broad term that includes “Japanese ghostly astrology.” Japanese folklore contains a lot of supernatural elements like shapeshifters and mythical creatures. It’s a fascinating topic, and the show has a nice list of artists:

Alan Defibaugh; Alessandro Echevarria; Alexei Vella; Andrew Bell; Andrice Arp; Attaboy; Brandon Reese; Brandt Peters; Colin Christian; Craig Arndt; Danielle Estefan; Duane Hosein; Eric Bryan; Greg Kletsel; Helena Garcia; James “Jimbot” Demski; Jesse Reklaw; Jimmy Krimmer; Johannah O’Donnell; Johnny Winslow; Josie Devora; Mairuzu; Meg Hunt; Michael Slack; N! Satterfield; Nancie Yang; Naoto Hattori; Nathan Stapley; Rosemary Travale; Sarah J. Pierce; Terribly Odd; Todd Nolan and MORE!

Opening night takes place on Saturday, June 14 at 7-10pm. The reception will include complimentary cold sake, sushi, and other Japanese treats. The show runs until July 26th.

I'm a nerd who loves music, movies, graphic novels, and of course toys. I grew up in Los Angeles, and I currently live in the non-plastic part of Orange County. I'm a sucker for anything that is little and cute: plushies, Dunnys, Smorkin' Labbits, zipper pulls. My collection is dominated by Kozik and Uglydolls, and my latest obsession is IWG/Rocket World.
