We had gotten a peek at these new characters in the Carnival Cartoons line, but when pressed for details, all I could get out of the series’ sculptor, Eric Nocella, was that I should prepare to be blown away by designer Jared Deal‘s colorways. Eric revealed the protos and I waited patiently. And now here is a pic of the first colorway: a special black and gold edition for VTN. Black and gold is a really tight color combination. Although, quite different in style and substance, I can’t help thinking these guys would look nice next to my black and gold Buddha’s Delight.
Carnival Toys and 3DRetro Present a Black/Gold special VTN version of the latest Carnival Toy. Pierce the Human Pincushion and Nathan the Dog-Faced Boy come in a special 2-pack limited to only 50 pieces. Available at the 3DRetro booth during VTN.
Their story goes like this:“Pierce and Dogboy are the Carney family mischief makers! Pierce is the quintessential bratty younger brother, and Dogboy is Pierce’s pal, a loving pet, and… a fur covered wingman! Pierce relishes his gross-out gig as “The Human Pincushion” in the family sideshow act. (He’s got more holes than a boardwalk put-put course). When Dogboy isn’t doing double duty as the family’s household hound, and Pierce’s partner in crime, he wows the crowds at Barker’s sideshow with his furry face and outrageous animal antics!”
Writes Eric: “I really enjoy translating Jared Deal’s 2D art to 3D sculptural form – the guy’s got his own style and it’s a nice challenge to bring them to life. I’ve seen his colorways for these new guys and they’re quite stunning.” We agree. See you at VTN. The figures will be on sale theoretically Saturday and Sunday, though I’d recommend looking for them on Saturday. Check out some pics of the protos and Pierce “riding” a skatedeck I found in the wayback machine…
