ToyCyte: Toy Culture Collected

Gallery1988 has announced the second installment of the Under the Influence art series: a tribute to the Beastie Boys. Following last year’s tribute to comic book legend Stan Lee, and receiving the Beastie Boys’ blessing and involvement, this is guaranteed to be a super disco breakin’ show.

Featuring 100 artists, this show will reinterpret the music, lyrics, style and evolution of this legendary musical act. Artists such as Axis, Alex Pardee, Dave Flores, Eric Tan (above), Jim Mahfood, Johnny Bergeron, Kii Arens, Mark Brown, Matt Dangler, Mear One (below), Tristan Eaton, Tyler Stout and many more will create original pieces for this show.  The entire lineup of participating artists can be seen at 88beasties.blogspot.com.

The Beastie Boys tribute show will run from January 5th through January 29th, 2009. Gallery1988 is located at 7020 Melrose Ave Los Angeles, CA 90038.  A portion of the show’s proceeds will go to a charity of the band’s choice.
