events, plush, vinyl

San Francisco’s Double Punch Gallery follows last weekend’s Shawnimals event (coverage coming, I promise) by uglying up the cute plush ante with some “things” from David Horvath and Sun-Min Kim.

Monsters, eyeballs, eyelashes, pink tongues and bossy bears will scare the hell out of San Francisco and charm it with complete ugliness and cuteness.

Uglydoll and Bossy Bear founders David Horvath and Sun-Min Kim will be celebrated at the Double Punch gallery by presenting some “things” from their collection of work from 2001 to 2008. This captures the best of what they made in the past seven years of their collaboration as toy designers. The selection includes collectibles such as Kaiju, Noupa, Uglydoll vinyls, Choco and Minty, Bossy Bear and Spider Boom. Warning: some of the pieces are long sold out and very rare. I wonder if they’ll have armored guards?

A limited number of prints will be there too. The show runs from October 2nd through November 2nd with an opening reception Thursday October 2nd from 6-10PM.  Opening night is free. There will be a $2 (adults) and $1 (kids) admission charge following that, but you get a free gift. Bring some more cash to spend on the selection of great toys Double Punch is crammed full of (including a large selection of Kubricks and Be@rbricks, which everyone is always asking me where to get). I finally got a chance to meet DP’s proprietor’s Denise and Omar last weekend. They’re awesome and proudly showed me a sneak peak of the actual physical prototype of David Choe’s CHOEGAL–which is gorgeous and even impressed my girlfriend (who does not typically partake of the vinyl toy fandom.) See you at THINGS!
