There’s no use in denying the tenacular awesomeness of the many-tentacled invertebrates of our great oceans, and personally, I’m just waiting for US legislation that will allow me to marry one. So, until I have eight arms to hold me, I suggest the following toys for anyone who might be living the same wet, fevered dream as I.
- Moly, from IWG - $8. In 3″ form, this sedecimpus is two-cephs-in-one, and comes armed for battle. Also, she comes with weapons. Larger, 7″ form also available!
- Lefty, from adFunture – $35. Nothing says ‘love’ like a punk octopus fresh outta rehab. Available in original glow-in-the-dark, or a small collection of colorways.
- Early, Granny and Lil, from KidRobot’s [adult swim] – $8 each. It might be a violently unsettling documentary into the lives of low-income squid, or it might just be a window into your soul. Either way, squid.
- Salari-Ika by Frank Kozik – $115. Three colorways, three slow descents into paperwork oblivion and domestic oppression.
- Gezora, from Charactics – $36. Don’t let the adorable fool you – I suspect that Gezora is more toxic than the fabled blue ring octopus.
- Ikafire, from Medicom – $30-60. If you like your squid belligerent and oldschool, Medicom’s Deathtron #23 from Kamen Rider is my personal favorite, but you have to hunt for him.
- Crooked Critters by Lana Crooks – varies. The self-described “Plushinator” shows her cephalopods in art galleries and will make you a monster of your own.
- Kaniza DIY Squid from ToyQube – $10. And for those of us whose idea of a dream-squid is more elusive, ToyQube invites squid-lovers to create their very own vision of subaquaeous beauty.
