Toy2r has six new 3.5-inch Baby Qees coming down the pipes. The most exciting development is a new sculpt, which, just like Ganesh, has an elephant head. Now for the bad news. I RARELY have any criticism for Toy2r. Their Qee platform was my gateway toy into this genre, they give to charity, work with previously-unknown artists and make some truly excellent art toys. However, I don’t like Baby Qees. Never have. It’s kind of like, lets make a product that collectors already have to take a bunch of “he plays with kids’ toys” crap for and make it blatantly babyish in design and nomenclature. It’s the latter that makes Baby Qees the hardest to handle for me. The official names for the new wave of 3.5-inch Baby Qees are as follows: BALLEEQ, TOYERBBQ, BOXEEQ, SPRAY, EGGQ and ELEPEEQ. ELEPEEQ??? Why can’t it just be Elephant Baby Qee? It’s difficult enough to say to someone, oh thank you for your compliment on my Qee collection. Your what? My Qee collection. What? Q-E-E, pronounced Qee. Oh, how about that one? You mean my ELEPEEQ QEE? See what I mean? And then there’s the issue that SPRAY looks an awful lot like Kidrobot’s Fatcap design. Of course, these are only my opinions, and Toy2r promises us more Qee series and DIY goodness to come. In related news, shipments of regular 2.5-inch DIY Qees are due in next month (and I’ve already got dibs on half a case).
