The Gorilla’s Got a Bomb!

action figures, kaiju, vinyl

There’s something about a gorilla action figure that I just can’t get enough of - Monkeyman, Gorilla Grodd, Ultrahumanite, King Kong, and now, Raymundo Toys’ ‘Mecha Gorilla’ joints the simian ranks.

Hailing from Toho’s 1967 film ‘Kingukongu no gyakushu‘, ‘Mecha Gorilla’ is more commonly known by ‘Mecha Kong’ or ‘Mechani-Kong’, though Raymundo eschews these clear titles for some reason, possibly related to copyright issues. The kaiju Gorilla comes in two forms - one with a bomb belt and a closed mouth, and one belt-less Gorilla with an opened mouth. These seem to only be sold as pairs, running about $110 bucks from Big Bag Toy Store, and limited to ONLY 250 pairs. BBTS reveals the sculpted prototypes, but the final figures will be an accurate metallic silver.

And am I wrong, or does that head look REALLY freakin’ familiar?

Interested parties can also get an actual mini-replica of that head with Palisades Toys’ old Muppet Labs playset.
