Released this week from Toynami is the fifth wave of Futurama figures, and it’s an all-robot extravaganza, which is my second favorite type of extravaganza, right after ‘nude’. My passionate passion for Futurama is barely sated by Toynami’s schedule of two figures every three months, but I do what I can between waves to survive – if you can call it survival. This fifth wave includes acting bot Calculon, Bender dressed as Super King, and two pieces to build the truly horrible Robot Santa Claus.
Five waves in, and still no plans for a Professor. Seriously, Toynami, what’s the deal? If we get a Hermes Conrad before we get a Professor, I’m going to send you my left ear. That’ll show you.
I’m never opposed to new automatons, so Calculon joins robot friends Bender from Wave 3, as well as a build-a-Robot Devil constructed from the first three waves of figures. Super King will be part of the New Justice Team set, assembled with Wave 4’s Captain Yesterday and Clobberella from Wave 6. All are packaged in really neat retro-styled window boxes, and with only one more animated DVD left in the series before the show’s uncertain future is decided, I’ll take whatever Futurama-love I can score.
And if you’re listening, Toynami, might I suggest figures of Morbo, Mom, Scruffy, Leela’s parents, Hubert, and Lrr? My hunger is enormous, and 8 per year just isn’t enough.
