Once again, Mezco goes out of its way to support a noble cause using toys, ‘cause they’re just awesome people like that. Orlando’s FX International Show, which hits on April 17th through 19th, will play host to the second annual ‘Project Vinyl Art Jam’, in which customizers and other types of artists have 90 minutes to [...]

Ron English topped off a month full of toys with his Mythographic Vicissitudes solo show at San Francisco's FIFTY24SF gallery. Although Ron was on tour in Asia for most of the show's duration, his presence was felt through his signature pop surrealist style. A literal translation of Mythographic Vicissitudes works out to: the successive, alternating, or changing phases or conditions of a popular belief, story (or half-truth) that has become associated with a person, institution, or occurrence, especially one considered to illustrate a cultural ideal. That checks out as the show focused on 2007-2008 paintings and drawings based on variations of modern mythologies. Applying a unique sense of reverence to his patented mash of religion, history and art, Ron presented Mickey, Marilyn, Jesus, Snoopy, Warhol and Van Gogh amidst a palette where all was not what as it seems... The show concluded last week, and you can check availability of the work (oils for $20K, inks for $3K) via the gallery. If you didn't make it to the show, here is what you missed.

It’s Ron English’s month and you don’t have to get an Abraham Obama bust to get in on the toy action. After its overseas release during Ron’s recent Asia tour, the pop surrealist’s take on Charlie Brown is now up for pre-order from ToyQube. I wonder what the kindly docents at the local Charles M. [...]

Before their were toys, there was an image. On the same day Barack Obama got the official Democratic nomination for President, Upper Playground dropped Ron English’s Abraham Obama poster. Jetset Graffiti then licensed the image for use in an open edition less expensive print which quickly minted a new crew of street artists. Although Ron’s [...]

Yesterday’s excitement is still with me, and I wanted to provide a bit more information on my favorite Ron English x MINDstyle’s Abraham Obama bust so far. The “Presidential” colorway was a hand-painted edition of 100 pieces. Rumor has it that this is the colorway one might see in an episode of MTV Cribs or [...]

I totally live for all this Obama-inspired art, but I gotta call foul on this one. At this point, I’ve lost track of how many colorways of Ron English x MINDstyle’s Abraham Obamas have come out. The black bust was exciting and the pewter colorway kind of cool, but this “inauguration version” kind of [...]
