Jared Deal may be working on Kanji wave 2, but he hasn’t forgotten about Vlad. However, rather than revisit his original resin sculpt, he’s paying homage to the vamp with a series of custom Mini Munnys. “This is what happens when vampires bite vinyl,” writes Jared. Each 4-inch mini comes hand-painted, numbered, and signed with [...]

I’m forever diggin’ on Poland’s ciah-ciah and what the man can do with a toy and some black paint, so this recent custom Munny (with other mini-toy accessories, as always) is the perfect centerpiece to his ongoing Pyraminds papercraft project. If only we could all have one. I’m just imagining the plethora of constructed paper Pyraminds [...]

If you are the rare bird who was put off by all the violence in those carefully-crafted weapons-n-ammo accessories of recent Huck Gee customs, you’re in luck: Huck is showing off his softer side with a series of ten SkullBunny figures. This little guy has been sitting on the backburner for a year or so, trying [...]

Seems like a lot of recent art toy shows are suffering from a lack of press to help sell the pieces after the event. Case in point: we never knew the customs from the First Annual APW Custom Toy Contest were available online. custoMONDAY alum Nanan1 brought this to our attention, so we thought we’d [...]

Remember our little seated Munny prank last week? Huck Gee’s Taurus was just posted on the Kidrobot Forums (thanks Justin!). It’s like a Munny/Labbit mash-up in regal goldtones and woodgrain. Awesome, of course. I just refreshed my inbox and here’s the full info from Huck: The Legend of Minosu Ushi-Oni & The Golden Bull We revisit [...]

[youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtjaj3P6Jx8&feature=player_embedded] WOW. Rosie O’Donnell is making the circuit with Munnys. She’s now gone from late night with Craig Ferguson to day time. She recently turned up on none other than The Martha Stewart Show where she picked up a couple glittered and yarn-wrapped from Martha and implored her to “Sign the bottom, you wench!” This might [...]

OK, hang onto your seats, literally. I just stumbled upon the next incarnation of “The Greatest Do It Yourself Toy.” The Seated Munny photo above was accidentally leaked with some other images. I recognized the cutting mat and immediately contacted Huck Gee. At first, he denied any knowledge of the Seated Munny. But after some [...]

Well, if you thought that Kidrobot was going after the youngsters with their Cartoon Network Rebranding, they’re also going after the 18-49 demographic of Craig Ferguson’s Late Late Show. Remember Rosie O’Donnell’s Munny obsession? This week, she spoke extensively about the merits of Munnys on national television. She discussed her technique and how she limits [...]

I kept coming across the name "grimsheep" in custom shows. His work seemed heavily influenced by the comics and superheroes of my youth. When Owen won a custoMONDAY, he decided to give back by starting a custoMONDAY of his own. Owen's work will particularly resonate with comic fans. Writes the artist, "I will say its been fun seeing quality adaptations of comics coming out in recent years. Iron Man was quite a pleasant surprise, not only because it was great, but mostly because I didn't think anyone would ever do it. Coincidentally, Iron Man was the first comic I collected and also the first custom I did." A Stormtrooper here and a Hellboy there, and no doubt you're going to recognize Owen's work when you see it. You can keep up with his customs on Flickr, see his upcoming shows in San Francisco and Montreal, and you can enter our contest to win an original figure from Owen DeWitt's Custom Dunny Skull Squadron series through ToyCyte's custoMONDAY.

Rosie O’Donnell is putting her Munny where her mouth is, literally. The outspoken entertainer seems to have found the route to inner peace–through Kidrobot’s DIY Munny toy. Writes Rosie: “Now it is getting absurd. I do these non-stop really like crazy ocd out of control. Kel now suggests I take one when we go for [...]

Coming this Friday, January 30th, at 12PM PST, Huck Gee releases the next figure in the UTCMC Colonial Life series: CPL E.E. Lensman. No doubt named for his skill as a sharpshooter, Huck’s latest custom joins Sgt. Vasquez and Corporal Thundersticks in the ranks of heavily armored, signature style Munny troops. As with [...]

Yosiell Lorenzo (aka Project Detonate) first got in touch with ToyCyte about his Crooked Ways custom show in October 2008. His seamless painting style and cute, but corrupt, characters made me an instant fan. After experimenting with hands-on art forms versus sitting behind a computer all day long, Yosiell quickly fell in love with painting. As a result, Project Detonate has taken on a life of its own. With diverse artistic influences ranging from horror movies and Mist UK to Japanese pop art and video games, toy collectors and graphic artists alike are bound to connect with Project Detonate. If you'd like to connect with an original custom Munny and print set from Project Detonate, check out our custoMONDAY contest...

Gaël Brienne (aka Nanan1) just sent in this cell-phone snap of the XMAZ XPRESS, the finalization of his recent custoMONDAY piece seen here. Nanan1 inscribed the winning name for Santa’s ride on the side. This festive Munny (and his spacemobile) will be heading from France to the UK, where our winner, Ron, lives. Said Nanan1 [...]

Finally, someone’s found an intelligent use for those damned spiral-rainbow-glow pens that I get handed at Toy Fair every freakin’ year! They’re impractical to write with, way too distracting to do anything constructive with, and probably wasteful to some ridiculous degree. And yet – it feels so hard to throw them out. Fear not, as Scott [...]

Action Marketing Group prominently announces on their splash page that they “have never outgrown their experimental phase,” and to that end, they’re doing something with custom toys. I’m not sure I 100% understand the correlation between Munnys and marketing, but that hasn’t stopped me from reporting an interesting toy story before. I found out about [...]
