Once again, Mezco goes out of its way to support a noble cause using toys, ‘cause they’re just awesome people like that. Orlando’s FX International Show, which hits on April 17th through 19th, will play host to the second annual ‘Project Vinyl Art Jam’, in which customizers and other types of artists have 90 minutes to [...]

Angry that you can’t get your hands on one of those cool Kaws keychains? Well, shake it off. As promised during their behind the scenes story, Mezco sent us 6 Little Big Planet keychains. Want one? Now over a decade since the beginning of the designer toy movement, Kubricks, Qees and Dunnys seem like distant cousins from the toys that sparked the scene. They have become a category all their own: they are blind box toys. Blind box toys are sold with their contents enshrouded in secrecy. The risk-factor of buying the unknown is mitigated by the potential reward of getting something rare. You don’t know what you’re going to get, and that is, ostensibly, all packaged into the fun of the experience. Depending who you ask, blind boxing is a “marketing strategy” or a “fun experience.” Depending who you are, it is either one or possibly both. The segments of this story include: toy companies, toy fans, toy stores, toy artists and toy bloggers. Let’s begin at the beginning, with the toy companies. Part 1: Toy Companies.

So, here’s the scoop: Mezco’s bringing your favorite horrific monsters from their Cinema of Fear line into the popular 3 3/4″ scale. Leatherface, Freddy and Jason will comprise the initial offering of figures. While this line isn’t due out until the late 3rd quarter of 2009, they’ll be bringing a top secret sample to Toy [...]

Mezco Toyz, oh those masters of the horrific and unsettling, have once again taken the figural reins for the upcoming Friday the 13th relaunch, providing the 7″+ tall, fully articulated little incarnation of this new vision of Mr. Jason Voorhees, complete with an assortment of screen-accurate weapons. And if you doubt me about ‘unsettling’, I [...]

Leave it to those saucy Mezco people to spring a holiday surprise on us. All outta nowhere, they’re dropping these ‘BPRD Buddies’ – a series of eight miniature, forcibly adorable Hellboy 2 characters that measure around 2″ tall and have minimal moving parts, which makes them incredibly kid friendly – if you let your kid [...]

After sixteen series of Living Dead Dolls, you’d think that the Mezco-ites would run out of horrific, nauseating themes : the seven deadly sins, horror movies (and Edward Scissorhands), holidays, and a whole mess of generally eerie little dead kids. Their dark subversion of the ‘doll’ form has even been the base for various art [...]

Okay, stay with me here, because this is going to go a bit meta. During a recent Hellboy 2 : The Golden Army DVD release party, actor Brian Steele reprised his role as the colossal Wink, but he came with a friend in the form of Mezco’s excellent Wink action figure – thus forever destroying the [...]

Mezco has recently made rather ambiguous statements about a ‘video game license’ and a ‘kids’ book from 20 years ago’ recently, and a leak on the Toy Fair website (intended for industry professionals only) seems to have spilled the proverbial beans. Mezco will be making toys from the PS3 / XBox game ‘Little Big Planet’ [...]

Mezco’s ‘Heroes’ line of action figures had reached its second wave months ago, with exclusives and variants popping up everywhere – invisible guys, burnt-up girls, time-traveling other guys. Unfortunately, the recent lack of news regarding future sets has been a little disconcerting, with Mezco themselves stating that they can’t be discussed at this time – [...]

In anticipation of 2009’s ‘Wolfman’ cinematic re-debut, Long Island’s Mezco Toyz has revealed an image of their movie-based 7″ Wolfman, complete with ‘hygiene is overrated’ Zach Galifianakis hair and Benicio Del Toro’s already vaguely animal face. There’s a reason he played a character named ‘Duke the Dog-Faced Boy’. The classic-monster inspired figure is scheduled to include [...]

There’s a great interview with Michael Markowitz (aka Mez) of Mezco Toyz on the NHTVSN blog’s video project. In a well-made 9-minute doc, Mez talks about seeing The Warriors, the influence of Michael Lau and Micronauts, what Biggie’s mom told him and much more. Says Mez: “Geek is chic.” Check it out. NHTVSN Episode 2 Part [...]

Not sure how something dead can have a birthday since that is a celebration generally reserved for the living, but I guess that’s why they are calling this an anniversary instead. Who has a birthday slash anniversary mile stone coming up you might ask? Why none other than Living Dead Doll! To mark this benchmark, [...]

Following a glorious opening weekend for Hellboy II: The Golden Army, Mezco strategically announced their latest SDCC exclusive figure, Locker room Hellboy. Following a scene from the movie (I won’t ruin anything, except apparently earth bound specters need a shower too) the figure comes with a towel, a six pack, and of course, The Samaritan. [...]

Beware! A boom box and atomic pea shooter brandishing insect will soon be on the loose. Fortunately, he’ll be in manageable toy form and won’t be too intimidating. Here is a tidbit of trivia you may not have known, approximately 37% of the staff of Mezco Toys owns a bulldog. Yup, they really have a thing for those adorably stout and majestic canines, so much so that when they opted to do a charity auction, they named Heaven Sent Bulldpg Rescue as the [...]

Hellboy is one of the coolest comic heroes ever and it’s great to see him getting the appreciation he deserves. Prepping for the Hellboy 2 movie, Mezco is releasing an INCREDIBLY limited “bronze” bust. It’s not actually made of bronze, but has a sheen to give it that appearance. The really interesting [...]
