The winners of the Toy2R x ToyCyte Halloween contest started getting their loot last week, and I’ve been vicariously enjoying (OK, envying) their new acquisitions. It’s been a while since I’ve entered a space that was chock full of Qee, so I’m eagerly looking forward to the Toy2R booth at VTN. Here’s a selection of [...]

I've been expounding the virtues of Letter Pressed for a while. Their Artist Series reads like a Who's Who of the vinyl toy community: Joe Ledbetter, Jon Burgerman, Nathan Jurevicius, Bwana Spoons... In theory, every one of us should own something letterpressed. In practice, as with paint colors and Venetian blinds, you need to see a sample. I'm holding some such items. While I want my words to convey the elegance of the paper and the clean, vibrant impression of the art, you need to touch these for yourself. To that end, Letter Pressed's Mark Begley will provide one lucky reader with a pack of hand-numbered Cool It letterpressed cards by Le Merde. To win it...

No I’m not playing a cruel joke on JLED collectors by turning the saturation down on a Candy Smash; this is in fact a legitimate Toy2R x Joe Ledbetter MONO SMASH. Joe’s fans don’t need convincing that his pieces, with their thick borders and shadows, look terrific in monochrome. Smash is no exception. And for [...]

As we all know, a lot of insider trading happens on Wall Street. Not one to miss out on a little hanky panky, the kids at Kidrobot are offering a special deal for their “most loyal robots”, which I must be one of since I got the email. They are offering 60% off some super [...]

I entered the shop to find rows of sneakers and toys! It was quite dangerous letting me step into such a shop, since I have a passion for both. Most of the pieces that were on display were created by Frank Kozik. Some of the other pieces that were available at the shop included some I haven't seen sold at retail in a while, more specifically: Huck Gee's Mama's Boy GID qee.

First, a confession: Clowns totally freak me out. Even though Ledbetter, tokidoki and Baseman will be busting out the red noses, you still won’t find me anywhere in the vicinity of the Corey Helford Gallery on November 15th for the CLOWNS group show. Sure, there will be a host of hot new works from some of [...]

Sketch for Change is a project comprised of sketches by Joe Ledbetter, Tim Biskup, Amanda Visell, Jeff Soto, Bob Dob, Gary Baseman, Thomas Han, Shag, Glenn Barr, Luke Chueh and about a dozen other artists culled from the 'lowbrow' scene. The idea was cooked up by a group of friends in Los Angeles looking for unique ways to help raise funds for Barack Obama's Campaign for Change. The 21 artists were affiliated with the recent Baby Tattooville art retreat.

The finished hoodie features a large “heraldic Deathbot shield on the back” [...]
