Joe Ledbetter Chase Endangered Dunny

So it turns out there isn’t just one great Joe Ledbetter figure breathing some fire into the jury’s-still-out Dunny Endangered series. There’s actually a second fire (or lava) breather: this CHASE JLED figure. Based on the press releases, this series was supposed to be spoken for in one hot minute, but they’re still available here. [...]

Kidrobot’s Dunny Endangered Series Online Now!

I admit that I wasn’t so enthused about Kidrobot’s latest Dunny Endangered Series, but check out this devilish little Ledbetter. There seems to be nothing endangered about evil, but I’d pick up this guy in an open box for sure. It is my duty to tell you that the series is on sale now at [...]

30 CUSTOMS BY 30 ARTISTS: Munny Auction for the Children of Cambodia

It’s nice to have talented friends, and it’s even nicer to use artistic output as a medium to raise money for people who need it. Kidrobot’s Toy Baroness, Nichole, tasked 30 friends with transforming Munnys into clothes, books and bikes for the children of Cambodia. No, not literally (although Sket One did turn vinyl into [...]

Kidrobot’s Dunny Endangered Series

Hmmm….to borrow words off PerezHilton…”how do I say this delicately?” OK I’ll just borrow some more words off DannyDesign’s post on the Kidrobot thread: “So, do you have to buy the HappyMeal to get one? Or are you able to just purchase the Dunny?” That kind of sums up how I feel. Kidrobot is going [...]

The Squirrels Made Me Do It Previews

I actually dig squirrels, but I understand why people are driven to madness by them. To that extent, the Grass Hut gang has invited 3 Los Angeles-based artists and one from Berkeley (represent!) up to Portland for The Squirrels Made Me Do It. Amanda Visell, Michelle Valigura, Anna Chambers, and Joe Ledbetter will be on [...]

Joe Ledbetter’s Detached Mr. Bunny T-shirts

Joe Ledbetter just dropped some new tees of familiar characters. The Unicornasaurus (girls’) and Detached Mr. Bunny (guys’) shirts are made with a discharge process using water-based inks and come tagless and individually bagged. Sizes run similar to American Apparel and they cost $29 here. Joe writes that he’s excited about these shirts, and maybe [...]

Blindsided: A ToyCyte Investigation – Part 4: Toy Artists

On Monday, we began a conversation about blind box toys, and we started at the source: the toy companies. Kidrobot and MINDstyle both said that their fans enjoy the blind box experience. On Tuesday, we talked to the fans and reaction was split: with casual fans liking the fun experience and serious collectors experiencing the blind frustration. Wednesday’s topic was toy stores--largely in favor of blind boxes, but also presenting alternatives. That got me wondering: Do toy artists enjoy the blind box experience? Here are Doktor A, Joe Ledbetter, David Horvath, Jon Burgerman, MCA, Huck Gee, Sket One and Buff Monster (who have over 20 blind box series between them) on the topic.

New Customs From Joe Ledbetter Look Like Production Pieces

When I see stuff like this, two sensations immediately overwhelm me: 1) jealousy and 2) thinking that I like these Joe Ledbetter customs more than their production brethren. The figures are Southpaw Ringo (a homage to Luke Chueh), Thundercornasaurus, Firecatzilla and Ms. Bunny. Vinyl Pulse took all the great photos and revealed the customs today, [...]

The Hoodie Sale to End All Hoodie Sales

It took approximately 48 minutes from the moment I placed the Joe Ledbetter Hoodie into my virtual shopping cart until I successfully checked out. There must have been a surge in folks needing hip hoodies because the GAMA-GO servers were crashing like the stock market mere moments after their 48-hour sale kicked off. From 12PM [...]

Luke Chueh, Joe Ledbetter, Anthony Ausgang, Peek-a-boo and Thomas Han brought the familiar names and the big colors. Peter Gronquist and Alex Pardee upped the creepy ante...

Letter Pressed Ensures Vinyl Toy Artists Leave a Lasting Impression

I've been expounding the virtues of Letter Pressed for a while. Their Artist Series reads like a Who's Who of the vinyl toy community: Joe Ledbetter, Jon Burgerman, Nathan Jurevicius, Bwana Spoons... In theory, every one of us should own something letterpressed. In practice, as with paint colors and Venetian blinds, you need to see a sample. I'm holding some such items. While I want my words to convey the elegance of the paper and the clean, vibrant impression of the art, you need to touch these for yourself. To that end, Letter Pressed's Mark Begley will provide one lucky reader with a pack of hand-numbered Cool It letterpressed cards by Le Merde. To win it...
