As a total sucka for anything even remotely related to the all-consuming video games of my youth, I was a bit jealous that I’d never have the chance to grab on of Erick Scarecrow’s limited-to-25, Soopa Maria Sato figures - obtainable only if you got a coin with a magic number on it, were willing [...]

Mr. Erick Scarecrow seems to have some new bit of awesome fallin’ off of him every week - and this week’s Muraida print and super-limited Chelly Chainsaw colorway are no exception. January 2nd, 2009, Scarecrow’s ‘Muraida Attack’ Giclée (which is French for ’snooty inkjet’) will drop at his eBay shop, at a cost of $65. The [...]

The other day I did a post of Erick Scarecrow’s Soopa Maria Sata available to only those who happened to hold special gold coin. If you weren’t one of the super lucky who had a winning number, sorry! But here’s some good news. You may have the chance to get your hands on a Soopa [...]

Give a big hello to Erick Scarecrow’s new Soopa Maria Sata figure from ESC. Yeah, you may have missed cold chillin’ with Erick Scarecrow at this winter’s Vinyl Toy Network but it’s good to know the man had a good excuse for not attending: he was busy making these Soopa Maria Sato, just for you! [...]

Vinyl Toy Network Winter 2008 was a lot of fun and a great opportunity to chat with artists, toy companies, shops, fans and collectors. People were lined up hours in advance to get a crack at exclusive art toys by Joe Ledbetter, Kathie Olivas, Frank Kozik, Gary Ham, Doktor A, MAD, Marka27 and others. Customized [...]

Here’s just a sampling of some of the exclusives from the VTN Winter 08 show. (Click here for a tidy tagged version of all the coverage.) People who had been waiting in line for hours got right to business locating these particular figures. It seemed to me like much of the crowd got in, got [...]

Dave Bondi, sculptor of many of Joe Ledbetter’s best sellers, had a pink VTN exclusive colorway of his original Mario x Mickey Akashi figure and was signing on Saturday. The 9-inch figure was limited to 50 pieces in the VTN colorway. Said Dave, “People either love these or hate these.” Sharing space with Dave at [...]

No self-respecting vinyl toy convention can go on without a custom show, and VTN didn’t disappoint with a selection of 15-inch interpretations of its mascot, Vinnie. For such a giant and rotund original, the asking prices–even during the economic recession that was on everyone’s mind during the event–were pretty great. Really nice cartoony work that [...]

Here is another Vinyl Toy Network exclusive that won’t last long. This eight-inch Dunny, the Stone Hermit Dunny, was done by Erick Scarecrow and will be limited to just twelve, yes TWELVE, one dozen, one more than eleven. That’s it. The piece will be available both days or until it is sold out, which really [...]

Yes, you may still have a whole bunch of tryptophan pulsing through your veins, being that this special offer happens the day after Thanksgiving, but you should really make an effort to stay awake to bask in the glory of this super cool piece of hot ESC Toys action. As blogged about here, there and well everywhere, [...]

In a few weeks, the world will have one more anthropomorphic spraypaint can, and it shall be called Muraida. Coming from the prolific toy wizards over at Erick Scarecrow’s Esc-Toy Ltd., the kaiju-lookin’ Muraida destroys your city with an uncontrollable green ooze, gigantic claws, and an unhealthy dose of CFCs. Which of these three is [...]

Erick Scarecrow likes to tease us. Yesterday, Erick sent us an email with just the attachment above. I wrote him back, begging, nay pleading, with him for more juicy details. What? When? How? Why? His reply: “I can’t reveal much now other than it’s going to be a steal!” Well, so far, in these [...]

It looks like one of the October Toysters enjoys a wee bit of the old customizing on the side. Erick Scarecrow sent us an email with some photos of a stunning custom that George Gaspar of October Toys did of Erick’s ESC Toys Kissaki. October Toys is a “purveyor of fine toys and collectibles with [...]

The 2008 US Presidential Election will be a historic and groundbreaking event. While the race and gender of the candidates is unprecedented, so is the huge outpouring of art. The latter can be seen tonight in NYC at ToyTokyo's The Showroom where Jailbreak Toys presents an evening of customized Barack Obama action figures by Brin Berliner, Damion Silver, Bigfoot, Denise Despirito, Leecifer, kaNO, Brent Nolasco, Matt Hawkins, Brian Colin, Dionysus Cho, Erick Scarecrow Jeaux Janovsky and more. Regardless of how you lean politically, a show of this nature has never before been attempted. All figures will be for sale with proceeds going to fund the Campaign for Change. You can look back at all the coverage of ART + ACTION = Obama 08 here, or scroll down for our exclusive pictorial. ToyCyte's NYC correspondent will be bringing us coverage of the show, so stay tuned. Tonight's event begins at 7PM EST. There's a rumor that Amber, the Obama Girl, may make an appearance. Wish I could be there.

Just like the daily polls, I am avidly watching the Barack Obama customs for the upcoming Art + Action: Custom Obama Action Figure Show that are trickling in from artists far and wide. If you live in a cave or are in some kind of McCainish denial, the much anticipated show will be happening at [...]

Erick Scarecrow of ESC Toy is about to release a new colorway of his stunning Kissaki figure. The new hue? It isn’t just “red” or “blue”, it’s “Wicked”. “Wicked”, as in the Broadway spectacular based on the bestselling book about the youth of the Glenda and the Wicked Witch of the West of, yes, Wizard [...]

First peeped as a sculpt back in May on Erick’s Flickr here, Chelly Chainsaw is finally being rolled out in this hot Blaze Edition colorway. The official partyline from the Erick Scarecrow mailing list is that the 10-inch Chelly Chainsaw coldcast statue will launch at the end of this month with the Blaze colorway in [...]

Beyond seeing toys on your television and being able to call out, "I have that," Toys Are Us is interesting on a number of levels. For instance, the interviews with Frank Kozik and Brian Flynn are particularly educational, from their perspectives on who gets "O.G." credit for the designer vinyl movement (hint: it's not Michael Lau) to some choice words for and against extended colorways.
