Following quite the fever pitch, Red Hot Robot opened its doors for the Resin Collective, and the red dots started flying. Store owner Jason Kiningham was way ahead of the curve curating this show, which featured standout work from today and tomorrow's hottest resin designers. Even a local Phoenix rag covered the show, re-interpreting Jason's "lowbro" lingo as "way cooler than that boring museum crap" in their article, Anti-Toy Story. Those familiar red (sold) dots were quickly adhered to Cris Rose's Rotund's Romp, Cris and Okkle's Happy Joy Bot, Le Merde's Vanfar, Hello, Brute's Danny, Makkinoso's Evil Spike, WeKillYou's William Palerne and pretty much all pieces by Arbito and 2Petalrose. The dotting continued into the night, as fans circled around the display and marveled at the diversity of the medium.

I’m gonna be totally honest: I wasn’t sure about these guys when I saw the prototypes. But now looking at them in living color, my mind is clear: they look awesome! I’ve got a couple pieces in my collection sculpted by Eric Nocella and painted by Jared Deal, and it’s a winning combination. Eric keeps [...]

Is it me or does everything look great in translucent resin? CLEARLY, Eric of Argonaut Resins agrees. Following up the red and blue translucent MoneyGrip resins seen at NYCC, here come the yellow and green editions. Although we are not affiliated with this project, it’s rad to see this figure all ‘dressed up’ in ToyCyte’s [...]

WOW. I repeat: WOW. Beginning April 11th, Red Hot Robot is hosting an unbelievable group show of resin toys. I don’t think I’ve ever been able to say this about a group show of this size before, but I’m proud to say I’ve written a little something about every artist on this roster. So either [...]

When you have a pairing that works as good as this, why quit? Jared Deal and Argonaut Resins are at it again. This sculpt–which Jared says should be complete by week’s end–looks like a cross between their latest Carnival Cartoon Dogboy and a kaiju-style figure. That is all the known info at this time, but [...]

NYCC was a nearly incomprehensible miasma of crowds and excitement and getting whapped in the shoulder by uncareful cameramen, but I survived the whole ordeal with bruised body intact. After a few technical delays, I'm finally home again, here to report on the onslaught of awesome. Read on for highlights from David Foox, Bob Conge, GoHero, Erick Scarecrow, Jure Gavran, Jared Deal, Eric Nocella, kaNO, Nakanari, NEMO and Brent Nolasco.

Jared Deal, semiprofessional carnivalologist, is another one of those successful toy artists that’s just cool to talk with – no matter how deeply you try to pry into his subconscious to figure out where this circus stuff comes from. Ultimately, it’s a little bit of Coney Island and a little bit of the rotating (and [...]

Robbie Busch has been finessing his art formula since many Kidrobot devotees were drinking formula (particularly true for kids born in the late 70s when formula briefly reigned over milk). His colorful career spans comics (more Sandman than superher0), film, animation, music, photography and writing. Robbie, aka McBoing Boing, has clocked decades as part of the urban art scene, so who better to wax poetic on cultural changes as we teeter on the precipice of a new year? ToyCyte chatted up the New Yorker about life, art and his first original resin toy. You can check out paintings and pieces from Robbie's recent show at Rotofugi here, including prototypes of his El Diablo figure. The first wave of El Diablos available for purchase hit the Argonauts Resin store at 12PM PST/3PM EST today.
