Depending on how you’re experiencing the current recession, this is either very good news or very bad news: Kidrobot is doing an epic reissue of Huck Gee’s Series 1 Skullhead Dunny, and they’ve upped the ante. Not only will the rare, iconic Dunny be reissued, but it’s been blown up to 20 inches in size, [...]

So it turns out there isn’t just one great Joe Ledbetter figure breathing some fire into the jury’s-still-out Dunny Endangered series. There’s actually a second fire (or lava) breather: this CHASE JLED figure. Based on the press releases, this series was supposed to be spoken for in one hot minute, but they’re still available here. [...]

I admit that I wasn’t so enthused about Kidrobot’s latest Dunny Endangered Series, but check out this devilish little Ledbetter. There seems to be nothing endangered about evil, but I’d pick up this guy in an open box for sure. It is my duty to tell you that the series is on sale now at [...]

OK, before someone says “Verdigris is the new black” based on Doktor A’s Mini Mechtorians variants and this new custom Dunny series by Collin David, let’s review the facts for those at the back of the classroom: Verdigris is the common name for the green coating or patina formed when copper, brass or bronze is [...]

The blind box strikes again! Bryan Collins’ Beast Buddies raise an interesting question : are blind boxes really that bad when every piece you can potentially get is original and from an artist you dig? Either way, Mr. Collins’ is offering up an undisclosed number of custom 3” Dunny Beast Buddies, each with an original sketch, [...]

What is it about people turning perfectly innocent, inedible toys into foodstuffs with such delicious abandon? Hardly a day goes by wherein I do not see a Dunny or a Mad-L that I’d like to take a bite out or have a lick of. Oh, food-toys, why now do you tempt me with that most [...]

It’s another beautiful day in the Bay, but it’s raining at Kidrobot.com. So while I can’t trot down to the KR store on Haight and get one today, I did just order one of Jon Burgerman’s Rainy Day Dunnys online. Yes, I bought a Dunny. Sue me. I’m a serious Burgerfan. My hands are tied. [...]

Hmmm….to borrow words off PerezHilton…”how do I say this delicately?” OK I’ll just borrow some more words off DannyDesign’s post on the Kidrobot thread: “So, do you have to buy the HappyMeal to get one? Or are you able to just purchase the Dunny?” That kind of sums up how I feel. Kidrobot is going [...]

Kidrobot is taking a queue from our toy-selling friends overseas with this Rainy Day Dunny. Motorbot is easily my favorite holiday toy customizer. Remember his awesome Frank Kozik Christmas hams and Thanksgiving turkeys? For Easter, Motorbot has turned his attention to that beacon of marshmallow goo, the iconic Peep. The Dunneeps have been a Motorbot tradition going back a couple years, and if you “peep” this thread on the Kidrobot [...]

Collector. Ector. Ector. Ector. She’s got herself a Huck Gee dunny! This image was on the Huffington Post, but I spied it on Huck’s Twitter. I read somewhere that Rihanna is a big art collector. In terms of coolness points, I think that a background nod from Rihanna kind of kicks the ass off an [...]

Cris Rose’s Observation Drones are back. Wave 1 sold out, and here are 5 more. These Observation Drones have been watching the skies from the forest for so long now, they’ve gotten covered in moss! No one knows how old they are, or what they’re looking for, but with a camera that big, you know [...]

Now over a decade since the beginning of the designer toy movement, Kubricks, Qees and Dunnys seem like distant cousins from the toys that sparked the scene. They have become a category all their own: they are blind box toys. Blind box toys are sold with their contents enshrouded in secrecy. The risk-factor of buying the unknown is mitigated by the potential reward of getting something rare. You don’t know what you’re going to get, and that is, ostensibly, all packaged into the fun of the experience. Depending who you ask, blind boxing is a “marketing strategy” or a “fun experience.” Depending who you are, it is either one or possibly both. The segments of this story include: toy companies, toy fans, toy stores, toy artists and toy bloggers. Let’s begin at the beginning, with the toy companies. Part 1: Toy Companies.

Uamou is currently offering a limited edition of signed and illustrated Dunnys from the UK Series at her webshop. This is quite cool because when I first saw her production figure for this series, I was underwhelmed. We love Uamou [tagged] for her own characters’ cuteness and simplicity, but somehow the plaftorm figure seemed unfinished. [...]

I have to observe that the actual, three-dimensional Jesse Hernandez Jaguar Warrior 8” Dunny looks even better than the sketches that we were teased with back in mid-January, and Kidrobot is making a big deal out of the release with a tour and a signing that crosses the US in only 4 insane days. Thankfully, [...]

Phoebe Marie is a midwest-dwelling artist who caught ToyCyte's attention for her incredibly detailed Dia De Los Dunny custom series. Since then, we've gotten to know her for other toys, collage work, jewelery and being a very funny, extremely prolific persona (her bevy of personal blogs includes daily feet and the 366 Days project). I can only imagine that Phoebe's keyboard is covered in glitter. You can follow her visually on Flickr. While you're there, check out the enchanting St. Patrick's Dia De Los Dunny series Phoebe made just for ToyCyte, which includes 6 custom figures perfect for your holiday celebration. Five will be available in the ToyCyte Shop shortly. But Phoebe and ToyCyte want to give you one for free. Read on to hear why Phoebe digs Day of the Dead, a thesis on how leprechauns might just be gay and probably the first and last mention of payot on ToyCyte.

Is there any situation in which you could put a Dunny and have it NOT be awesome? I mean, aside from lodged in your throat or a major artery. Riot68, creator of some really exceptional iconography and customs, has revealed the second group of four Dunny Zombies from the ultimate set of ten Dunny Zombies, which [...]

Unless you were living under a rock, you were aware of the debacle that was accidental distribution of Kidrobot Series 5 Dunny’s GTs. There was a lot of back and forth about this issue: Namecalling, suspensions, anger, humor, but like most things, the issue primarily faded until some real news came forth. Straight from Huck [...]

I kept coming across the name "grimsheep" in custom shows. His work seemed heavily influenced by the comics and superheroes of my youth. When Owen won a custoMONDAY, he decided to give back by starting a custoMONDAY of his own. Owen's work will particularly resonate with comic fans. Writes the artist, "I will say its been fun seeing quality adaptations of comics coming out in recent years. Iron Man was quite a pleasant surprise, not only because it was great, but mostly because I didn't think anyone would ever do it. Coincidentally, Iron Man was the first comic I collected and also the first custom I did." A Stormtrooper here and a Hellboy there, and no doubt you're going to recognize Owen's work when you see it. You can keep up with his customs on Flickr, see his upcoming shows in San Francisco and Montreal, and you can enter our contest to win an original figure from Owen DeWitt's Custom Dunny Skull Squadron series through ToyCyte's custoMONDAY.

Spotted this on Clutter: The bandit above is David Moore from Southport. He was recently found guilty of cashing company checks (to the tune of £780,000) and using the money to buy boxes of “collectible toys known as Kidrobot or Dunnys.” When police raided his house, “they found numerous boxes of the small figurines stacked [...]
