Pink is easily the frontrunner when it comes to color of choice for kaiju figures. So it kind of makes sense that when pink aficionado Buff Monster released the first edition of his Kaiju For Grown Ups figure last November, he had an even pinker version in the works. The clear magenta Demon Seed is [...]

It’s a fact that Buff Monster likes metal, so here’s his second collaboration with the metalsmiths at FullyVisual. I think the new line of designer coin banks (begun with Kozik’s Reagan bank) are interesting in a punk irony kind of way. In a time when people have less money than ever, check out some high [...]

Maybe you can’t wait for Disney x MINDstyle’s Stitch figure release or maybe you’re done with the whole “buying production figures thing.” Either way, Buff Monster has you covered. Wednesday at 11AM PST, he’ll give you instant gratification and customs. Buff took six Stitch artist proofs and changed the color of the eyes, toe nails, [...]

One of my personal favorite (and lovably local) adhesive art companies, Infectious, has just come out with new designs by Jon Burgerman and Buff Monster. I’ve already got Jon’s Lunar Park Infectious car art (so look out for a Honda Civic all temporary tatted up), but now we can also ensconce our smaller gadgets with [...]

On Monday, we began a conversation about blind box toys, and we started at the source: the toy companies. Kidrobot and MINDstyle both said that their fans enjoy the blind box experience. On Tuesday, we talked to the fans and reaction was split: with casual fans liking the fun experience and serious collectors experiencing the blind frustration. Wednesday’s topic was toy stores--largely in favor of blind boxes, but also presenting alternatives. That got me wondering: Do toy artists enjoy the blind box experience? Here are Doktor A, Joe Ledbetter, David Horvath, Jon Burgerman, MCA, Huck Gee, Sket One and Buff Monster (who have over 20 blind box series between them) on the topic.

I think when it comes to KFGU, folks love it or hate it–and the same can be said for the dripping breast creature oeuvre of Buff Monster. A piece like this is therefore kind of a grail for people who like both. What is being called a “first edition” is clear with pink, gray [...]

First, a confession: Clowns totally freak me out. Even though Ledbetter, tokidoki and Baseman will be busting out the red noses, you still won’t find me anywhere in the vicinity of the Corey Helford Gallery on November 15th for the CLOWNS group show. Sure, there will be a host of hot new works from some of [...]

It’s been over a month since the last Buff Monster web exclusive, but with a Pink is Power tour treasure, a FullyVisual metal piece and this sweaty monster from Gallery1988, Buff’s been keeping busy. Those acquainted with anatomy and/or Buff’s oeuvre, will recognize the neon yellow and green labia offsetting the stark black creature. There [...]

This was one of the most "pure fun" art shows I've seen in a while. It must be pretty hard to hang plush in a gallery setting, but they pulled it off with good lighting and a cool backdrop. Credit to Katie and G1988 for an awesome show and inviting me in early to take pictures. Art toys abounded, but no one was taking themselves too seriously between the spooky muzak and Kaiju Big Battel's psychedelic presence. It's also always great to see (in person) art by international designers I write about (like Tim Tsui, the inimitable Doktor A and DGPH to name a few), and it's also nice to watch local artists like Leecifer and Anna Chambers have their pieces snatched up quickly. For those who couldn't make it (the show runs through November 1st), enjoy a virtual tour below.

It’s the attack of Miao and Mousubi! You may recall, and perhaps own, the stunning Miao and Mousubi set tokidoki designed for Zakkamono.
