Brandt Peters’ Serv-O-Matics Comin’ Up!

I have an unnatural hatred for anything with differently-sized eyes. It’s seriously irrational, violent and pervasive. A little ironic, as I have an occasional squint, but this asymmetrical rage has prevented me from ever getting into Brandt Peters. Now the dude’s gotta throw robots at me. And I’m done. June’s Serv-O-Matics from MINDstyle promise to be [...]

Brandt Peters’ Cackle Factory Art Up For Sale

Gallery1988 just posted up images of all of Brandt Peters work from yesterday’s opening of The Cackle Factory. I wish I could have been there to see these in person, but Jensen and Katie always do a great job of representing the gallery’s art for the masses. Brandt’s solo show included large oils on canvas [...]

Letter Pressed Ensures Vinyl Toy Artists Leave a Lasting Impression

I've been expounding the virtues of Letter Pressed for a while. Their Artist Series reads like a Who's Who of the vinyl toy community: Joe Ledbetter, Jon Burgerman, Nathan Jurevicius, Bwana Spoons... In theory, every one of us should own something letterpressed. In practice, as with paint colors and Venetian blinds, you need to see a sample. I'm holding some such items. While I want my words to convey the elegance of the paper and the clean, vibrant impression of the art, you need to touch these for yourself. To that end, Letter Pressed's Mark Begley will provide one lucky reader with a pack of hand-numbered Cool It letterpressed cards by Le Merde. To win it...

Kathie Olivas and Brandt Peters Signing at Cardboard Spaceship

Wow. This is going to be crazy. Cardboard Spaceship is a tight space and Kathie Olivas and Brandt Peters have a dedicated army of fans. My guess is that there will be a line stretching down Santa Cruz’s Pacific Avenue (so prepare to be spare-changed by well-fed hippies). Kathie and Brandt will be signing for [...]

Plush Monsters Descend on San Francisco: A Virtual Tour

Plush Monsters Descend on San Francisco: A Virtual Tour

This was one of the most "pure fun" art shows I've seen in a while. It must be pretty hard to hang plush in a gallery setting, but they pulled it off with good lighting and a cool backdrop. Credit to Katie and G1988 for an awesome show and inviting me in early to take pictures. Art toys abounded, but no one was taking themselves too seriously between the spooky muzak and Kaiju Big Battel's psychedelic presence. It's also always great to see (in person) art by international designers I write about (like Tim Tsui, the inimitable Doktor A and DGPH to name a few), and it's also nice to watch local artists like Leecifer and Anna Chambers have their pieces snatched up quickly. For those who couldn't make it (the show runs through November 1st), enjoy a virtual tour below.

08/08/08 MINDstyle Goes for the Gold and Some Good Luck

Is today your lucky day? Well it should be. 08.08.08 is considered to be a very lucky indeed, especially in the Chinese culture.
