Collin David and Bob Conge for Multiple Personalities 2

There aren’t as many perks to being a toy website editor as you might think, but on a personal level, I get to create the joy of pairing up contributor Collin David with one of his heroes, Bob Conge, in a post about the Multiple Personalities 2 show. Collin’s custom Mellow is called ‘The Golden [...]

PlaSeeBo’s Cream Boy Goes To Auction

Bob Conge returns to creep us the heck out once again with ‘Cream Boy’, or ‘Coco’ as he’s alternately called. This prototype is going up for auction on April 25th in NYC at Phillips de Pury, who are notable for selling some pretty high-end custom toys before. The bidding on this 9.5” figure is expected [...]

It Came From Skullbrain and the Imagery of Japanese Toys

This weekend saw the opening of a custom toy show based around the imagery of Japanese toys. It Came From Skullbrain profiled the talent (much of it local) from the Skullbrain forum, an off-shoot of San Francisco's Super7, which hosted the event. The night was already off to a great start when a good old Japantown-style fight broke out in front of Super7 shortly before doors. But to truly appreciate your toy art in the most surreal way possible, you need four guys in full KISS regalia.

Bob Conge x Lapolab Brainrider Mashup???

All of this is just speculation from a sketch sent to us by the brilliant Bob Conge. What we see here appears to be Bob’s Skulloctopus riding atop Emilio Garcia’s Jumping Brain. Bob’s email was titled “Could it be?” Which makes me want to finish the sentence with “for the Resin Collective group show in [...]

Ever-so-far-away in Japan, and ever-so-far-away at the end of March will be the ‘Kaiju Comrades’ show at the Hyaku Gallery in Tokyo. The show will focus entirely on interpretations of Mark Nagata’s various kaiju characters, and be home to a ton of beautiful monster-y exclusives. Of special interest is Bob Conge’s reinterpretation of Nagata’s Tripus. Fitting [...]

New York Comic Con 09 Roundup

NYCC was a nearly incomprehensible miasma of crowds and excitement and getting whapped in the shoulder by uncareful cameramen, but I survived the whole ordeal with bruised body intact. After a few technical delays, I'm finally home again, here to report on the onslaught of awesome. Read on for highlights from David Foox, Bob Conge, GoHero, Erick Scarecrow, Jure Gavran, Jared Deal, Eric Nocella, kaNO, Nakanari, NEMO and Brent Nolasco.

Bob Conge / PlaSeeBo at NYCC 09

It’s no secret that Bob Conge is probably one of my favorite toy artists. Not only is his subtly creepy awesomeness all handmade from his upstate NY studio (upstate NY represent!), but it’s all super-limited edition, very high-end, classy as bejesus goods. While he was not at the Con, his stuff was represented at the [...]

Bob Conge’s Journey of the Stonewalker Prototype

If Bob Conge doesn’t have a permanent crowd in his corner of NYCC, there is truly no justice in this world. NYCC: Bob Conge’s Skulloctopus From Outer Space

I think this is one of the coolest Comic Con exclusives to cross my inbox. Cool as ice, you might say. Bob Conge has created a piece that will appeal to fans of the clear resin “ice” colorways recently seen in the work of Argonaut Resins, people who love cephalopods and of course, those familiar [...]

Bob Conge Awakens The Mummy Plaseebo

While the Kaiju Monster Invasion show during Art Basel Miami promises to have a ridiculous number of impressive bits, Mr. Bob Conge sends along an especially interesting set of monsters, entitled ‘Plaseebo – The Awakening’. Conge always manages to summon some genuinely surreal, creepy creations. If there’s a way to make kaiju even more bizarre [...]

Bob Conge Takes on American Greed

America recently got an injection of much-needed hope with the promise to put more focus on “main street” versus Wall Street in the near future. Although there was some shock as a nation to hear that amidst the billions of dollars in bailout, insurance executives were dealing with the country’s woes by getting spa treatments, [...]

Think-UP a Monstrous Halloween With Miscreation Toys

Many moons ago, when ToyCyte first kicked off, Jeremi Rimel contacted me with his Think-UP Do-It-Yourself Bust. He sent me a Think-UP, we chatted about some things and then we lost touch. In the meantime, busts got big. Recently I saw Doktor A's Think-UP creation at the Monster Art Rally, Jeremi got back in touch, and here's the lost interview (now found), right in time for Halloween. Think-UP is produced by Jeremi's company, Miscreation Toys. The white vinyl busts are 8 inches tall and come in standard and "with tentacles" editions. Master monster-makers like Bob Conge have customized this unique platform. The humanoid head/creature base is ripe for the rendering. Now without further ado, here's Jeremi...and Happy Halloween.

Bob Conge Teaches a History Lesson With Sum and Son of Sum

We’ve written about Bob Conge’s Night Gamers and custom Eyezon here on ToyCyte. But for Bob’s triumvirate in tomorrow’s Phillips de Pury auction, I turned to toy art consultant and kaiju collector, the enthusiastic and effusive, Mr. Steve Agin. Bob is a major force in the current burgeoning toy art scene. Working tirelessly from his [...]
