STRANGEco has finally given us a visual complement to Greg “Craola” Simkins‘ large-scale original figure hints, which date back to last October in a Fecal Face interview and last January in a Vinyl Pulse interview (both good reads). Greg’s previous releases (a walrus for Upper Playground and the standard and chase Scurvy Nevil for the Vivisect Playset) are treasured by fans of his surreal fine art, but have left us wondering how his “unicornistic, magic-brow” style would translate to a bigger figure. Judging from this photo of Cap’n Rotnclaw, very well indeed. This vinyl sea pirate drops at SDCC ‘08 at the STRANGEco booth #4629. You’ll never be so happy to tell your pals you got crabs!

In other STRANGEco SDCC-release news, we’ve got this G.I.D. Observer from MARS-1. Now, although this piece is: 1) Glow-in-the-dark, 2) a pretty dope sculpt, 3) one of the last special edition Observer figures and 4) limited to only 50 pieces, I can’t help feeling that unlike the case of Craola (above) MARS-1’s unique painting style is missing here. I’m left wanting for the details and texture typical of MARS-1’s paintings, but perhaps this just isn’t the platform for that right now.
