I am a big fan of the smoke-and-mirrors effect of the Munny platform figure disappearing into an artist’s custom creation. Is Mike Slobot’s custom Mini Munny a Munny, or is it a Slobot?
An extract from the story of the Slobots:
As the demand for new technology raced on, many of the earliest robots found themselves without homes or jobs or families. They began to search for new meaning in their lives, in many parts of the galaxy, and even into the farthest reaches of the universe…
Hmmm…Slobots sound awfully similar to Americans under George Bush. But I digress. This particular Slomunny is a version 3 bot, which means that despite his crushing power, he has evolved enough to care about humans. (Bush hasn’t made it to version 3 yet, I surmise.)
Mike’s custom creation started off with a 4″ Mini Munny and ended with articulated in the arms, acrylic appendages, a glass eye and a winning personality. He now stands proudly at 9″ tall. And to top it all off, he’s eco-friendly: his pack is hydrogen-powered. Says Mike: “He is also made of recyclable materials and other everyday detritus that I am trying to rescue one piece of plastic at a time from a life of very slow decay.”
Following this weekend’s Giant Skills Mini Munny show at PinkGhost, SLOMUNNYV3 is now ready to be adopted. $150 is not bad for a custom. Buy it here. To view more Slobots (including an excellent 15″ Bart Simpson Munny mod to be auctioned by Toy2r), click here.
