Sesame Street Gets a Kaiju Makeover

Fri, Dec 5, 2008

kaiju, vinyl

My girlfriend recently told me that after seeing Dark Shadows as a kid, she was even scared of The Count on Sesame Street. I had the opposite trajectory, starting with Sesame Street, favoring The Count and becoming enamored with all manner of vampires, and cutting a reverse path from Buffy back to Dark Shadows via DVD. Sesame Street was clearly an influence upon many folks, and while it seemed to me like a distinctly American program, it’s range extended to the east. There have been Sesame Street Kubricks and now there are Sesame Street kaiju. Spied this on Toybot Studios: Kaiju-Taro is releasing the “Real Street” set which will be a Kai-zine mail order exclusive retailing for just under 16,000 yen (~ $173 USD). The 5-figure set from RealxHead features all the staples in RxH fashion: Count Evil, Big Bird Bigaro, Oscar the Grouch Mini Mutant Head, Elmo Mini Orghan Bat and Cookie Monster Mutant Chaos.
