I totally live for all this Obama-inspired art, but I gotta call foul on this one. At this point, I’ve lost track of how many colorways of Ron English x MINDstyle’s Abraham Obamas have come out. The black bust was exciting and the pewter colorway kind of cool, but this “inauguration version” kind of leaves me with a feeling of having thrown up after a bad acid trip while watching Fourth of July fireworks. Don’t get me wrong, I’m as excited about Tuesday as everybody else (maybe more), but why sour history by turning it into a cash cow? Everybody and their brother is dropping a limited edition T-shirt or party favor. This was all fun and interesting when the design and inspiration were there. Now it’s obviously becoming a way to make a buck at the last minute. Well, each to his/her own though. If you love this, pre-orders are open for $199.99 at ToyTokyo here now. Not that you asked for my opinion, but since I have you captive, if you want a more afforable inaugural Obama figure, Jailbreak Toys’ Shepard Fairey-inspired “Hope” Obama is a sweet piece at only $20.09. The first batch of them promptly sold out, so if you need one, pre-order here for delivery at the end of the month.

I agree. Saying something is a limited edition and showing three colorways, and then subsequently just continuing to make new “limited” editions that are just different colors cheapens the whole project. And man, is this one UGLY!!
