Just in time for the holidays, the Aurora Gallery in Worcester, MA, in association with Modus Lotus, has organized a toy-based show to benefit Toys For Tots. The call for contributions included ‘art inspired by the toys… of your youth’, which is like a dangerous siren song for me, threatening to dash my bones against the rocks on the shores of Worcester’s Salisbury Pond. The show will be up until January 16th, and has been marked by an appearance of Kaiju Big Battel’s nefarious Dr. Cube, so if you can make your way over the mountain of mangled carcasses that he surely left in his wake, stop on by and check it out.
The art on display, reaching back into distant toy and TV memories, is what this whole pop surrealism thing is all about, and the collection of neato vinyl toys on display will surely steal your heart. I’m going to keep a safe distance, but only to avoid the compulsion to curl up and sleep there, in the happiest of all places.
