Pizza Face Ponies and Poscas

Beyond Toys, designers, plastic, vinyl

These are definitely a couple posts that are ramping up to Kidrobot release of the Heroes of Burgertown mini-figures this week. Or, it’s just that Jon Burgerman is consistently and prolifically newsworthy. I mentioned his My Little Pony figure last week here, but courtesy of Jon’s blogpost, I now know that his pony’s name is “Pizza Face.” With this yellow, orange and red colorway, intricate doodles and pretty hair (did I just say that?), the name doesn’t even conjure the pimply insult from which it may be derived. Jon has a few eerily Fatal Attraction-like pics of the process of disemboweling and dying the pony (with help from Stuart Witter, who collaborated on the WorryKnott figure). And if you’ve ever wanted to see a doodlemaster do his thing on a Hasbro icon of girlish growing-up, The My Little Pony Project (click the events tab all the way at right) has a video of Jon going house on MLP.

And speaking of Posca pens, if Michael Phelps can stump for Speedo, it was only a matter of time before Posca took note of one of its brightest stars and put out a limited edition pen set with Jon. The Posca packs contain six extra-fine bullet tip pens in black, white, red and rare metallic silver and gold. When I went to my local Blick art supply shop, they’d never even heard of these pens, but my customizer friends across the pond swear by ‘em. The Jon Burgerman x Posca pen packs feature Jon’s artwork and character stickers and will be available soon in the UK and through his webstore here.

this pony looks more like a henna head than a pizza face.
