Do you live in the US and often get the feeling that much, much cooler things are happening overseas in basically every geographical and cultural direction? Yeah, sometimes. Exhibit A: These Nike “Magnificent 7″ sneakers (aka “trainers,” “tennis shoes,” and “kicks”) doodled upon by Jon Burgerman were only available in Europe. I follow Jon’s work, and I didn’t even know about these. Turns out he collaborated with Nike to create a set of kicks centered around a Venus Fly Trap doodle. The set includes pairs of Nike Shox R4, Nike Shox NZ, Nike Air Max LTD 2, Nike Air Max 90, Nike Air Max 1 and Nike CBW.
This is a highly inspired collab, IMO, and not just because I’m a fan of Jon’s work. In addition to being a toy collector, I also have a collection of carnivorous plants–several fly traps among them. I had the chance to bridge the two collections when I got one of Clutter magazine’s exclusive Venus Flytrap Qee. I’d probably be up for a pair of flytrap footwear if not for the unfortunate (or fortunate) fact that I’m simply not sporty enough to sport Nikes. Too bad this collab couldn’t have happened on a pair of plain black Chucks or Vans. For those of you who are both aesthetes and athletes, these should be tempting trainers. Jon’s got a supply of the sneaks in US mens’ size 9(ish). Mouse over this Flickr image to see if he’s got ‘em in your size, and then contact Jon via his website. [Photos via Jon and EUkicks.
