Beyond Toys, action figures, video

There was a time when I unabashedly loved the writing of Neil Gaiman. I was a Sandman devotee (mostly Kindly Ones era) and clung to every word he wrote – and then I found Harlan Ellison, stopped wearing black and all-day sunglasses, and became a balanced, healthy human being. Nevertheless, my defection from the Cult of Gaiman hasn’t hindered his progression towards more and more exposure, with his most recent young adult story about to premiere on the big screen.

It’s a story about character who find themselves sucked into a dark, strange version of their own world, and it’s called Neverwh… wait, Mirrorma… um, Coraline. Sure, they’re all pretty much the same story, and I seem to be trapped in a dark world of my own where I’m the only person lucid enough to understand this, but NECA’s new figures look pretty neat.

NECA plans to release a series of three 7″ ‘fashion dolls’ with flexible limbs and interchangeable fabric clothes, as well as a series of nine 3″ PVC figures. I’m a bit partial to the three button-eyed ghosts, but I have a thing for ghosts, and stop-motion animation, anyhow. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t just a little bit excited.
