My Paper Crane Sharky

custom, plush

Here is another awesome Sharky made for ToyQube’s 4th Anniversary show. This one is by Heidi Kenney of My Paper Crane. Her custom Sharky is part vinyl and part plush. In her own words:

I turned my Sharky into a potted mushroom. The shape of the body and pointy top worked well for topping with a mushroom cap. I think the open bitey mouth of the Sharky made it very Mario Bros-esque. The fins became leaves, and I had a lot of fun making it.

I do see the Mario Bros. influence which makes it even cooler. If you look at it another way, it looks like the creepy lovechild of a mushroom and Jack from Jack-in-the-Box. I love it because it’s creative, and it takes custom vinyl to a different level.

I'm a nerd who loves music, movies, graphic novels, and of course toys. I grew up in Los Angeles, and I currently live in the non-plastic part of Orange County. I'm a sucker for anything that is little and cute: plushies, Dunnys, Smorkin' Labbits, zipper pulls. My collection is dominated by Kozik and Uglydolls, and my latest obsession is IWG/Rocket World.
