Beyond Toys

Some people think of Takashi Murakami as the “Louis Vuitton guy,” and others are complete fanatics. I don’t think I’d pay $2 million for this sculpture, but I like his work. After I see his show at MOCA, I’ve been in love with his Murakami flowers. I skipped the LV room and spent most of my time admiring his paintings and massive sculptures. I paid way too much for his plush keychains and stickers, but they were worth it. Base Control released a t-shirt designed with the famous smiling flower. They are available at Cliff Edge for $80. Unfortuately, they only show two sizes: small and medium.

That may seem like a lot of money for a shirt, but there are plenty of Murakami fans. I’m surprised that we haven’t seen t-shirts like this sooner. There were a few other Murakami t-shirts listed on that page, and they are all sold out. If you want one (or you want to get one for your lady), you’d better act fast.

I'm a nerd who loves music, movies, graphic novels, and of course toys. I grew up in Los Angeles, and I currently live in the non-plastic part of Orange County. I'm a sucker for anything that is little and cute: plushies, Dunnys, Smorkin' Labbits, zipper pulls. My collection is dominated by Kozik and Uglydolls, and my latest obsession is IWG/Rocket World.
