Munny Legends Series 1 by Stor Dubiné

custom, vinyl

I came across something intricate and unusual on Flickr the other day–a collection of customized Munny figures in homage to the Seventies. Perhaps because a vast majority of designer toy fans are children of the Eighties, it’s more typical to see toys customized with Eighties pop culture and music references. But Venezuelan-born (and current resident of Berlin), Stor Dubiné counts the music of the disco decade as one of his principal artistic influences–a concept rendered all the more interesting by the fact that he was born with severe bilateral hearing loss. His devotion to the Seventies shows in the attention he put into his Munny Legends Series 1, which features Donna Summer, Elton John, Grace Jones and Nina Hagen. This is Stor Dubiné’s first foray into platform toys, and I can’t wait to see what’s next. When the series is finished, they will become part of a multimedia exposition in Berlin: each Munny will have a couple of digital pics, a poster and a video. Three more figures are planned for Munny Legends Series 1 dropping within the next couple of weeks. Check out some pics after the jump, and then head over to his Flickr photostream and leave him a note here. They’re not for sale as of now, but if he changes his mind, dibs on the Nina Hagen Munny!
