Mr. Brainwash (aka MBW), the distinctive graff artist and billboard bandit who has tagged up the streets of Los Angeles and New York, opens his first major solo show June 18th in Hollywood. In an enormous former CBS building, Mr. Brainwash will launch a large scale art event and show over 100 pieces of artwork he’ll be selling. The show will include a 6-foot bar-coded Mona Lisa painting, stencils, oil paintings and photography, a life-size recreation of Edward Hopper’s “Nighthawks” and large scale installations such as an 8-foot tall spray can.

MBW, who has been called a “force of nature” by Banksy and noted for his “relentless, obsessive passion” by Shepard Fairey is poised to turn Life Is Beautiful into the happening of the year. Besides DJs (including Fairey), the event will feature a jazz band, seven theme rooms, a labyrinth-like showroom, “a bank vault filled with modern gold,” and an installation of 100,000 shoes.

This elaborate event has a rather short life cycle: it runs from June 18th through June 22nd. Check the artshow2008 site for hours and location details. The first 200 people in the door get a signed limited edition Elvis print.
