moversandshakers

Gino Joukar, a Los Angeles-based pop surrealism and urban art collector, is curating Movers & Shakers, a group show with an amazing roster. For a Valentine’s Day date that seeks to go beyond dinner and a movie, POVevolving Gallery is the locale. There are over 80 artists involved, and a sampling reads like a who’s who of people we write about each week on ToyCyte: Alex Pardee, Anthony Ausgang, Brandi Milne, Buff Monster, Chet Zar, Chris Ryniak, Damon Soule, Dave Bondi, Dave Pressler, David Horvath, David Lanham, Dead Presidents (not listed, but will be represented), Doktor A, Dylan Sisson, Eric Joyner, Gris Grimly, Jeff Soto, Jesse Hernandez, MAD, Mari Inukai, Mark Nagata, Meredith Dittmar, Nate Frizzel, Nathan Spoor, Ron English, Sara Antoinette Martin, Scott Radke, Tessar Lo and Yoskay Yamamoto.

Clearly this list was assembled by the kind of care only someone who is both a curator and collector can conjure. Gino and POV will also release a special limited edition print box set at the show. The set contains 13 prints (8×10 inches, edition of 50) with prints by some of the leading pop surrealist artists around today: Ana Bagayan, Andy Kehoe, Bob Dob, Cathie Bleck, Damon Soule, KMNDZ, Brian Despain, Glenn Barr, Lola, Mia, Naoto Hattori, Nicoletta Ceccoli and Yosuke Ueno. There will be over 100 pieces of original artwork by stand-out designers all in one place. So much great art in one spot–will there be a cataclysmic shift and California break off into the ocean? Is that what “Movers & Shakers” actually refers to? Only one way to find out. Get there early and you might even score a Gelaskin by one of the show’s artists.
