It’s a little-known fact that I created my local library’s unofficial mascot. He’s a plush squid made out of a Christmas tree form and some fat quarters from Jo-Ann Fabrics – and he hides in the Children’s Room throughout the summer as the kids hunt around for his newest reading spot. He’s been called ‘kind of ugly’ more than once. Squiddy and I have a lot in common. Why a squid is a mascot for a library in a landlocked county is another story.

Mortal Plush, the Art Whino gallery in Maryland, and Licorice Tree are extending their hunt for ‘emotional plush art’, so if you’re a maker of plush that is especially unhappy, or idiotically gleeful, or maybe just a little homicidal, drop Mortal Plush a line. They’re looking for you.

The collected entries will be on display between July and August, and will be collected into a book – which comes complementary to all participating artists, so get sewin’.
