Infinitely influential to contemporary pop music and generations of musicians, The Beatles (despite having a chunk of their catalog owned by Michael Jackson…) continue to change the visage of pop and contemporary culture for decades on end. Their single, “Can’t Buy Me Love,” hit the top of the charts in both the US and UK immediately after its release in March 1964, not to mention becoming the title for a 1987 nerd gets girl movie that launched the career of the “dreamy” dude on Grey’s Anatomy.
SILLY THING proposed the ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ 1000% Kubrick project to MEDICOM TOY CO. and The Beatles around two years ago, and it is not until winter 2008 that it has come to its final stage. The plan sees the four members of The Beatles (John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr) shaped into stylized creations of 1000% Kubrick oversized figures. According to SILLY THING’s dedicated mini-site: “With the 680mm (26.8 inches) height, they could be the biggest Beatles collector’s toys ever. At a time when the crossover of pop culture and art are more and more recognized, The Beatles ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ 1000% Kubrick Set makes a delightfully light-hearted investment.”
Unfortunately, it’s not going to be so light on your wallet. I think these look really great, but the cost-conversion with shipping to the US comes to about $2,472 USD. Yikes. If you’ve got cash to spend, since money can’t buy you love, buy some Kubricks: The 1000% Kubrick set is now available for worldwide purchase through the THINK SILLY webstore.
