You know how there’s a certain genre of spooky children’s books that are favored by perky goth girls? Hard to say if this fits the bill exactly, but if you’re a member of the niche who collects Blythe dolls and has a vomit fetish, you are going to feel the bile rising in your throat just reading this. Based on a short film by Mark Ryden and Marion Peck, Sweet Wishes draws on the artists’ extensive collections of vintage children’s toys and ephemera. Mark and Marion cast some of their favorite dolls as the story’s protagonists and photographed them in lush fantasy sets to illustrate the short story of Dolly, Baby, and Bear and what happens when they are granted a wish from a magical fairy. The book is available here as a normal hardcover ($20) and a boxed Special Edition (250 copies, $300) that includes the signed and numbered copy of the original picture book, a DVD of the “Sweet Wishes” movie and a Sweet Wishes bookmark, all housed in a two-pieced pink satin box.
