Making Munny With Kim Jong Il

I wonder what North Korea’s Kim Jong Il thinks of his semi-prominent place in American popular culture. For legions of late-night viewers, Kim looks a lot like Mad TV’s Bobby Lee. But to Canadian customizer Okedoki, he looks more like a Kidrobot Munny. Writes the artist:

This was a commission for Foosh, for their 10 Year Anniversary. It was an honour doing this project for them, as they’re my favorite store in Edmonton, not to mention the coolest place to buy sneakers, designer clothing and vinyl toys.

Okedoki has a way of translating a diverse (and occasionally controversial: see Hitler Munny) array of pop icons into vinyl toys. She leaves interpretation to the viewer. I can’t comment on why she chose Kim Jong Il (or Hitler) as subjects, but I can say that the stipling technique and Flav-style clock are awesome. Check out her 2008 customs here.

Awesome stipling! This is the third Kim Jong customized piece I’ve seen but they always look good. What no the State or Ben Stiller show reference?
