I’ve been eagerly waiting for the release of Dave Pressler’s Angry Clobber Monkey. Produced by Munky King, the 8″ vinyl figure includes a little pilot inside its back hatch. In a recent blog post, Pressler mentions that it will be available in the fall around September/October. There will be a release party at Munky King, so stay tuned for details.

In his latest blog, Pressler gives us a behind-the-scenes look at how he made the prototype. The above picture is the mold for the torso, and he describes the process of filling the silicone mold with resin. The informative post shares some of his techniques:

Rice is a good filler for guessing weight. Fill the mold with rice, weigh the rice. I am casting the masters so I want the pieces to be solid. When I make the prototype it will be hollow. Whatever the solid weight was go with 50% for the hollow weight.

The post also includes two videos of the process. I never knew how artists create their prototypes, and I learned a lot from this piece. To see how he made the actual mold, visit this link. It’s great to witness the artistic process, and it makes me even more excited about his upcoming toy.

I'm a nerd who loves music, movies, graphic novels, and of course toys. I grew up in Los Angeles, and I currently live in the non-plastic part of Orange County. I'm a sucker for anything that is little and cute: plushies, Dunnys, Smorkin' Labbits, zipper pulls. My collection is dominated by Kozik and Uglydolls, and my latest obsession is IWG/Rocket World.
