Maker Faire Pt 4: Have Cupcake, Will Travel

custom, events, featured

Westcoast CupcakesI’m back from The Maker Faire in San Mateo, CA with lots to tell. There was all manner of science and magic and craft and technology. There were wacky people and zany happenings and a turnout that filled at least 3 parking structures (which meant that steampunk girls had to temporarily close their parasols and ride a gas-powered chartered yellow schoolbus to the festival).

Crowds can be a bit anxiety-inducing for me. Enter a giant electric cupcake with Prozac sprinkles. Follow it up with a Hostess cupcake, a Union Jack cupcake, a blueberry cupcake, a cupcake dotted with ‘S&Ms’ and a whole gang of roving baked goods containing a local collective known as the Westcoast Cupcakes. I really can’t explain the unadulterated joy of this spectacle. So while I get to writing my recap of Maker Faire, please spend a few moments viewing this awesome video from Boing Boing. If you like what you see (and if you don’t, you may in fact be a sociopath), check out their photo gallery here.

Don’t fancy cupcakes? How about an artcar made of 6,000 pens?

What a cool story! I wish I could have gone. We don’t have anything like that here in Raleigh. I am so jealous, I want to ride to work in a cupcake. I wonder if that counts in the HOV lane?

These were so superlative! It is impossible not to smile in the presence of roving cupcakes! Post instructions! How can I join? I will go through whatever cupcake gang hazing is necessary. 8 boxes of Entenmann’s, without coffee? Giant blueberry bran muffin, no facilities? No problem. I just want to pull up to the grocery store parking lot in my mobile cupcake.
