Liz McGrath and Her Lucky Pig

Beyond Toys, events

The amazing and ever talented artist Liz McGrath is heading over to Spain, to the land of jamon to show off her own kind of pig, The Lucky Pig (above) that is. This piece is the centerpiece of her upcoming show in Barcelona called Tears of the Crocodile at the Iquapop Gallery there. Her whimsical, alluring creepy and extremely detailed three dimensional animal sculptures are a fascinating spectical to be sure.  As Juxtapoz wrote about this upcoming show: “Inspired by the constant exposure to modern man’s disassociation between nature and nurture, her new pieces are tangible expressions of the gap between emotion and action. Taking the aphorism ‘crocodile tears’ to a new level, these pieces poignantly capture the result of man’s willingness to trade sincerity for culturally proscribed happiness.” Yeah, that’s a mouth full for sure.

But if you recognize her from her thought provoking art, you may recognize Liz from her super cute Butcher Qee she did a while back, or from her band Miss Derringer. Yeah, she’s a busy girl. Plus this LA girl is going to have a piece at the Scope Art Fair in London (October 15-19th) The solo show in Spain will open on October 23 and run until November 23rd.
