Kozik Custom Kaws 500 Years Later Companion

custom, designers, vinyl

I have no idea how I missed this one, but the blog The Art Collector claims this piece as being “Arguably the biggest toy curiosity to come out of San Diego Comicon 08”.  It’s being called the “500 Years Later Companion” and is a customized Kaws (a take off of the 5 Year Later piece) by none other than our old pal and bowling buddy Frank Kozik. The custom was gingerly handed off to a lucky and I’m sure appreciative and according to Kozik, a very serious Kaws collector (who had sent Kozik the 5YL GID to customize a while back.) There is much debate on the Kidrobot discussion boards about the validity of this as a significant custom, who’s more respected- Kaws or Kozik, and the size of Kozik’s …studio. Yeah, the posts kinda go on and on with Kozik himself chiming in. If you want some amusing reading of Kaws vs. Kozik fans check it out here. No clear winner but there are some punches thrown.

I highly recommend reading that Kidrobot thread. Thanks Sunny for the laugh! I love when Kozik comes in and makes his point and then someone just slams him. There is so much courage in anonymity isn’t there? Hilarious stuff.
