Kidrobot’s Dunny Endangered Series

Hmmm….to borrow words off PerezHilton…”how do I say this delicately?” OK I’ll just borrow some more words off DannyDesign’s post on the Kidrobot thread: “So, do you have to buy the HappyMeal to get one? Or are you able to just purchase the Dunny?” That kind of sums up how I feel. Kidrobot is going in so many directions lately (movies, clothings, jewelry, etc.), it seems like it would make sense for them to finally split their toy division between kids toys and adult collectibles. Happy Meal-looking toys (or K-Mart toys, as another poster wrote) are not inherently the problem. It’s the misconception that these toys are still being designed for adult collectors. And with another price increase, there just continues to be a huge question  mark. Who are these toys really for? Kids or collectors?

In any event, word on the street is that the Dunny Endangered series is going to sell out quick. Although no formal donation to an animal group has been mentioned by Kidrobot, apparently Shane Jessup tweeted something to that end. The series drops May 21st and includes Dunnys by: Amanda Visell, Aya Kakeda, Elizabeth Berdann, Chuckboy, Frank Kozik, Jeremyville, Joe Ledbetter, Kronk, Michelle Valigura, Mr. Shane Jessup, Sket One, Tad Carpenter and Triclops Studio. All figures are blind-boxed for $8.95. No one can explain why Touma is not mentioned, though the piece (a new sculpt for Kidrobot, but a familiar item for any Qee collector) on the far left is clearly his. Thoughts?

Damn, what the fuck is up with the pricing on toys now!?!? Also that line about “Who are these toys really for?” brings up a good subject that I’d like to cover!

  2. Collin Says:

Perhaps they’re seeing that a significant portion of the toy audience is instead buying customs and one-offs by talented artists instead of their mid-range, overpriced, generic-y stuff.

  3. Jeremy Brautman Says:

If so, then why on earth would they raise prices on production pieces? The reality is, their stuff is still selling really well from what I can tell. Except those bags at Ross…

  4. Angelo Sison Says:

I mean I get where your coming from and all Collin about how the majority of the audiences now by customs and I also agree with you J about how there products sell no matter what. It just sucks, like for the kids who really love these things and are not as financially stable as others.

(sigh) I like the walrus design but thats about it. Almost a new dunny series every month now and a new 8″ every month. It’s crazy, I will continue to save my money for something more worthy.

    Yawn…
