KAWS X i-D Magazine Collaboration Issue

Beyond Toys, designers

When you’re as renowned an artist as KAWS, you get invited to do all sort of cool collabs–shirts, toys and sneakers among them. However, with the July issue of i-D magazine, KAWS enters my domain–the art of journalism–with stellar results. KAWS reports on his blog that the July issue of i-D was one of the largest magazine projects he’s worked on to date, but that he’d gladly do it again. The magazine, which features Pharrell and Kanye West among others, is super bright and clean with hues that really complement KAWS’ art. In addition to swathing the photos in his signature style (models get the KAWS eyes, there’s a bit of the Kimpsons and some Spongebob too), KAWS assumed the role of interviewer for a piece on A Bathing Ape’s Nigo. KAWS says that the interview gets to the good stuff with things he was “too polite to ask in the past.” It’s cool what you can ask someone under the guise of journalism, eh? See KAWS do up Nigo, Pharrell and Kanye after the jump.
