Kaws x Gallery1950 Housewares

Beyond Toys, designers

I just blogged about this Kaws video where he talks about wanting to make products and eschewing the limitations of street culture to do the things he wants. Well, I had no idea that the products he wants to make included a Companion ash tray and door mat. Huh. That’s different. He’s made banks before (which is only one letter away from saying he’s made bank before, which is also true). He’s got his signature X marks on some Nikes. But housewares? Maybe it’s partially ironic. People pay so much for Kaws merch; now he’s gone and made two products that require you to dump ashes or wipe your feet on them. I suspect these products are going to be like those couches your relatives have that you aren’t supposed to sit on, and when you unknowingly do, you get in trouble. But they’re made by Gallery1950, the folks who brought us this great polka dot Be@rbrick. So, whether or not you use the Kaws gear for practical purposes, they’re destined to at least look cool.
