vinyl

warm-regards1

Earlier this month, we picked up from KAWS’ blog that he’s going (ku)soft on us with his latest vinyl release, the Warm Regards Bar. Now, thanks to a tip from HypeBeast, here’s some info on where to get it. Along with an Ice Cream Bar chocolate brown t-shirt, the KAWS-designed Ice Cream Bar vinyl toy is available in three flavors. While the t-shirt retails for ¥7,000 (Approx. $79 USD), the vinyl holds a ¥8,190 (Approx. $92 USD) price tag. Both are now available via L’intrus as well as the OriginalFake flagship store.

Warm Regards was originally created as part of the Beautiful Losers exhibition in 2004 and has since been seen in other 2D manifestations. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but $92 is really not bad for a KAWS piece. I love KAWS work, and even though I rib him on this being, quite literally, shit on a stick, there is something appealing about it nonetheless!

T Shirts for over $50 is just a complete rip off. And anytime we are considering $92 for literally and figuratively a piece of shit c’mon. Email Cris Rose, you can get a custom 3″ dunny shipped from the UK for cheaper than that. I’m sorry I love KAWS but this shit is getting ridiculous. How many things can he put X’s through the eyes of.

    Ironic isnt it ;)
Well, the real irony is that this [the price for a piece of vinyl poo] is making fun of the people who buy it.
Although the irony is completely lost on those people…
which may or may not be ironic…

I mean, what you see above, is someone who purchased a $95 KAWS ashtray using it as it is intentioned–as an ashtray. Is KAWS having the last laugh about consumerism by taking it out on his fans? Things like doormats and ashtrays are designed to be ruined, so there obviously is an element of intention. But pricey as his shit (literally) is, he just doesn’t come off as an asshole.

well, no one is forcing people to buy this crap ;)

No he’s not an asshole by any stretch of the imagination. Having a laugh at the expense of your fans is not cool though. It’s nice when you can have some things that regular people can afford, that’s the great thing about vinyl and tshirts. When those things start getting astronomically priced and not due to complicated designs and or extreme limited runs (25 and under), it kinda pisses me off. I don’t
