Jumping Brains Sell Out

Tue, Jul 29, 2008

Misc, resin, vinyl

Usually we independent types hate it when someone’s brain sells out. I can think of a few coffee connoisseurs I know who are none to happy to read that the brains behind CEC sold their fancy elite Clovers to mainstream mundane Starbucks. This is a different story altogether though. As Sunny reported back in May, ToyCyte likes smart toys. And apparently a lot of you do too, because Spanish designer Emilio Garcia at Lapo Laboratories has already sold out his first production run set of RGB colored resin Jumping Brains. At 134 Euros with a limit of 1 set per customer, there is clearly a dedicated fan base. Sunny mentioned that if the RGB set did well, we might expect to see a black LE, a white DIY and a CMYK version. I’d say that selling out in a couple days is a good sign of doing well indeed! Check out Lapo Lab’s Flickr for protos and making of’s, and stay tuned to ToyCyte for updates.
