There’s only room for a certain amount of favored toys on my desk. While some of the mini-figures rotate (Qees, Dunnys, a Trexi or Fatcap here and there), a Kaws NYC bus stop and Jeremy Fish’s Get Small Series Bunnyskull (above right) are a part of the permanent tabletop collection. The bus stop is pure nostalgia. The Bunnyskull is an inspirational representation of the interplay between the saccharine and the macabre. It’s like something out of a fairytale. Which is why I’m not surprised that Jeremy Fish’s new leather-bound book (above left) is called Once Upon a Time.
The book showcases a cast of characters from Fish’s imagination. Each character takes on a unique personality that evolves into a fully functioning, existing universe that is undeniably from the mind of Jeremy Fish. Every time a new Jeremy Fish piece surfaces, a new chapter is being added to the story. There is also a section of the book that highlights photos of people that have gotten tattoos of Fish’s artwork. Once Upon a Time features paintings, drawings, photographs and a foreword from Aesop Rock. Get it for $50 from Upper Playground stores or online here.
