I’ve been following Hiroshi Yoshii’s 3D characters since I discovered I could have them brighten my inbox every morning (Hiroshii Yoshi’s Daily Work blogged). Now fans of Hiroshi have the opportunity to own a tangible 3D piece with his latest creation: Piyora. The Piyora project began in much the same way as Hiroshi’s other characters–using cutting edge digital modelling software, Zbrush. He then output the Piyora on 3D printers, cast them in resin and hand-painted them. You can take a look at some of the equipment he used here, and read all about the production process (including pics of early sculpts and bouts with bubbles) translated here.
The resin figures are available in blue, pink and green in a limited run of 30 pieces each. They are about 3.5″ tall (90mm x 58mm x 60mm) and cost 12,000 Yen ($112 USD) each from One Up. Can’t afford Piyora? Sub to The Daily Work or Hiroshi’s Flickr for your fix.
