The other day I saw a great custom green Toyer Cthulhu Qee on Toycutter, and I had to quickly drop the artist a line. The Toyer design is my favorite on the Qee platform and somehow one I see the most infrequently on customs. Turns out the artist is Phil (aka HelloPike) and while the custom green Cthulhu has already found a buyer, he’s giving ToyCyte a first look at this slick black and red custom Cthulhu. The figure in the pic above can be yours for the fair price of $115 shipped.
HelloPike got into Qee collecting about 4 years ago in the days of Qeester (we miss you Qeester…) Because of the original custom Cthulhu Qee, he ended up in touch with Raymond Choy of Toy2r and became part of the Toy2r/Simpsons art show that traveled the world last year. Fans of his work who can’t afford customs can anticipate a manufactured piece: he should have a few designs featured in an upcoming Qee series.
For customization materials, HelloPike uses whatever he’s got around and whatever the situation calls for. He considers himself more of a painter then a sculptor, so he’ll add bits and pieces from other objects or toys into his pieces, like the wings and tentacles on the Cthulhu, for instance.
HelloPike took about a year off from toys to build a replica costume of Star Wars’ Boba Fett. Currently, he’s shifted his focus to Japanese vinyl and Kaiju. He may be one of the busiest guys in custom work with his ambitious Daily Custom project. Check it out on his blog here. To inquire about purchasing a custom, click his contact link here.
