action figures

If it’s not too obvious by now, I have a deep affection for very old science fiction, so when Go Hero recently revealed the full head sculpt and die cast weapons of their upcoming Flash Gordon figure, I was already sold. I’m not talking about that 1980s Queen noise – I’m talking about 1935 Buster Crabbe, sweatshirt-with-a-lightning-bolt-on-it stuff, back when rayguns were the height of masculine future-tech and Jean Rogers’ huge eyes cold seduce the bejesus out of the Pope.

Go Hero’s Flash Gordon, due out in the spring of 2009 and retailing for $145, has been revealed to come with no less than two ray guns, a metal sword and a mini model rocketship. Their work-in-progress Buster Crabbe head sculpt is a work of pure art, and the prototype for the final figure is uncanny. I’m very excited to get this 1/6th scale spaceman next to his Buck Rogers counterpart (also played by Mr. Crabbe) for some kind of crazy space display.
