Gallery 1988 will be repping at SDCC 08 with Mattel at the Hot Wheels Booth (#3445). They’ll be displaying many of the customized vans and a few pieces of art from their partnered show “TOYS” which opened in April 2008 (some pics here). Together with Mattel, G1988 has lined up three limited print releases and signings:
- Kathie Olivas and Brandt Peters are releasing a new giclee print of “Leadfoot” on Friday, July 25th at 3 PM. They will also be on hand signing and celebrating their involvement with Hot Wheels’ 40th anniversary, The prints (above left) are limited to 190 pieces and will be $100 each.
- Ken Garduno will be releasing a print of his piece, “Imagine,” (not shown) and signing on Saturday July 26th at 11AM. The print will be $65 and limited to an edition of 220.
- Greg “Craola” Simkins will be releasing a new print from a piece he created for Hot Wheels and their 40th anniversary celebration (above right) on Saturday, July 26th at 2PM. The prints are limited to only 110 pieces and will be $125 each.
Buying a print encourages a mainstream toy company to continue to include artist and gallery participation at Comic-Con. But Gallery 1988 wants to remind you that YOU, designer toy fans, will be competing with THEM, Hot Wheels fans, for these, so lineup early. See the tandem press releases from G1988 and Hot Wheels.

If those pop artist x HW collabs aren’t exciting enough, G1988 asked Doktor A to steampimp their ride with a new exclusive custom van just for SDCC 08. Click here to see a preview of the beauty, and then go see it for reals at booth #3445.
